Valmorel Workshop Information
The JVNY workshop is a collaboration between Jeunes Virtuoses de New York, Inc. and Fetes musicales de Savoie. The workshop takes place in Valmorel in the Savoie region of France.
The JVNY Valmorel Workshop consists of two categories:
1) Jeunes Virtuoses de New York (JVNY), a camerata consisting of 12 selected young musicians who work approximately 5 hours a day under the direction of Arik Braude, and perform as a camerata and in various chamber music configurations in the Fêtes musicales de Savoie. Selected JVNY act as mentors for the junior workshop participants. Festival dates: August 4th to August 12th
2) Junior workshop participants work as an ensemble for 2 hours each morning, and then receive additional chamber music coachings in the afternoon. They perform frequently throughout teh duraction of the workshop in the Valmorel concert hall. Junior workshop participants are coached by Sophie Arbuckle and selected JVNY mentors. Festival dates: July 25th to August 4th
Housing:
Students are housed in apartments in the Valmorel ski resort. Each apartment is equipped with a basic cooking facility, as well as sleeping quarters. Three students are assigned to each apartment. Each family will receive their own apartment. If a student prefers to be housed alone in an apartment, an additional fee of 360 Euros will apply. Students are responsible for keeping the apartments clean and in good condition. A key deposit of 30 Euros per student will be required from JVNY participants upon arrival. The deposit will be refunded at the end of the festival, unless heavy cleaning is required.
Meals:
Students are independent for meals. Meals may be taken in local restaurants, which specialize in regional foods. There are also several food shops at the resort, where students may buy provisions. All apartments are equiped with excellent kitcens.
Travel to Festival:
Junior workshop participants must book their flights to arrive at the Geneva airport (Geneva-Cointrin) by the morning of Monday, July 25th, and must communicate their travel plans to the New York office. A festival shuttle bus will pick up students at the airport on the arrival day, by 11AM, or once all the flights have arrived. The pickup time is based on the arrivals information provided by the festival participants, but should not be later than 12 noon. The meeting point is the Montreux Jazz Cafe in the arrivals section of the Geneva airport. Students and families who prefer to arrive to Valmorel independently should communicate this to the office.
The departure day is Thursday, August 4th. A festival shuttle bus will bring students back to the airport on the morning of August 4th, and will retrieve the JVNY and bring them to Valmorel.

The final JVNY concert takes place in Paris on August 10th at the "Petit Palais". August 11th consists of a guided tour of Paris. JVNY should arrange their departure on Friday, August 12th from Paris. The festival will assist the JVNY to get to the airport.
Tuition:
Tuition includes the cost of the course, as well as housing.
JVNY workshop participant tuition: 950 Euros (housing is waived) Please note that a key deposit of 30 Euros per student will be charged at the time of arrival, and withheld if heavy cleaning is required upon departure, or if damage occurs in the apartment. Tuition includes transportation to Paris and hotel accommodation in Paris.
JVNY junior workshop participant tuition: 950 Euros. Please note that a key deposit of 30 Euros per family will be charged at the time of arrival, and withheld only if heavy cleaning is required upon departure, or if damage occurs in the apartment. Tuition includes transporation to and from the Geneva airport.
The housing cost for accompanying family members or friends is 280 Euros per apartment. In the case of more than two accompanying members, please contact the office for exact cost and arrangements.
Scholarship and Financial Aid:
*A certain amount of scholarship is available, which may be applied either toward tuition or travel expenses. Scholarship is based on need and merit. The maximum travel scholarship available is $500 per participant. JVNY who received scholarship will be assigned certain forms of work study to contribute to the festival.
Additional Chamber Music:
*Participants who wish to study additional chamber and solo works, other than what they are scheduled to perform as a part of JVNY, may bring the music with them and organize rehearsals amongst themselves. Opportunities to perform these works outside of the scheduled concerts are available at the culture center throughout the duration of the workshop. Students are responsible to bring music for these extra projects, as well as piano accompaniment parts, where necessary
