JVNY Chamber Music Workshop in Valmorel, France

France & Portugal Workshop Information

JVNY's intensive strings & voice workshop, "Rencontres Musicales Internationales" will be held this summer from July 23rd to August 6th, 2016.  Located in beautiful historical Braga, Portugal, this course provides advanced students with an opportunity to study intensively with international faculty in an inspiring setting, and to perform regularly in masterclasses and concerts.   This summer’s workshop will culminate in a performance of the Mozart Requiem in St Nicolas, France, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with students from the University of Minho music department.

Housing:

While in Portugal, students will be housed in the lovely Dora Hotel in downtown Braga, just near the Minho University music department and close to the old city. Students will be paired into double rooms unless they request a single room.  An extra charge of 445 Euros per applicant will be applied for single rooms.   While in France, Requiem performers are housed with families while the remaining workshop participants will be housed in the St Nicolas village hotel. The highest level of respect for the premises is expected of all festival participants at all times.

Meals:

Meals are taken communally. The hotel provides a continental breakfast served in a sunny breakfast room or on the terrace. Lunch and dinner will be taken as a group in local traditional restaurants. We will be in the old city for lunch and closer to the hotel for dinner. Specialties of the region will be served.  Festival participants should alert the office about any dietary restrictions and/or allergies, as well as general food preferences.

Travel to Festival:
Festival participants are encouraged to join our group TAP flight which is scheduled to leave from Newark, NJ on July 22nd at 11:25PM and flies directly to Porto. The return is on August 6th from Geneva with one stop in Lisbon, arriving in Newark, NJ at 3:20PM. We will be travelling as a group to St Nicolas, France, for the performance of the Mozart Requiem on August 5th. The flight from Porto to Geneva takes place on August 3rd, arriving in Geneva at 6:20PM, at which point a bus will transport us up to the concert site. Early in the morning of August 6th, the bus will bring us back to Geneva where we will connect to our flight back to Newark, NJ. The cost of the flight is $1546 US dollars, and must be paid in full as soon as possible and no later than June 30th, 2016.
